Have you ever been ice fishing and the day after been very sore in your lower back? Or even sitting in an office chair all day and sore after that day? This mindset coaching article will reveal why sitting is hazardous to your health.
I couldn’t understand why my lower back was sore. For the life of me, it just didn’t add up. Until I sat down in the same chair that I sat in the day before. Ice fishing is fun and depending on who is with you can be very entertaining. My lower back was so sore I barely did anything the day after. Still did one round of my WOD of course.
Sitting is hazardous to your health because there are pressures that are so minute that we don’t feel the effects of it right away. My portable fish house is pretty nice and the bucket seats are awesome. As soon as I sat down in one the day after it hit me like a lightning bolt. The pain, not an actual lightning bolt.
The top of the chair hit right where I was sore. Same would happen in an office chair even with the best padding. The human body requires movement. Use it or lose it comes to mind. Each day that goes without movement is a day you lose your independence. It’s not all at once, it a subtle decline.
Because people don’t exercise consistently anymore there are more Falls and injuries. That’s what the WODs solve. The problem of consistency and accountability. It’s amazing to me to think there are so many people that don’t workout daily. It’s time to stop making excuses and get at least one round of the next WOD done each day.
Above all, get up and move every 55-60 minutes. Sitting is hazardous to your health when sitting for longer than 60 minutes. That fish, report, email, and whatever else it is that people sit for can wait. Get up and move. Crank out one round of your WOD each hour. If you were to do that then you’d get 8 rounds done. Given that a person would fish or work for 8 hours a day.
Lastly, be very aware that your independence is like a pond of water. If you practice the movements required to be independent then the pond will stay hydrated and clean. Stop practicing said movements and the pond will get dirty, mucky and eventually dry up and turn to dust.
The truth is we all are going to die someday. It’s ok, it’s just reality. The only thing you get to control is what your body does until then. Take responsibility for every thought and action and then forgive yourself for neglecting them.
Now get up off your ass and move around a little more than yesterday. Repeat that process tomorrow and you will exponentially move more.
