Going To The Gym SucksWe all have had the experience at the gym if the idiot who screams after three reps of dumbbell presses with his earbuds in. That’s why going to the gym sucks. I simply refuse to do it anymore. This mindset coaching article will increase your awareness to avoid gyms like this.

Before realizing going to the gym sucks I was at the gym for a few hours a day. First, a free for all gym is the reason why people get hurt. A gym can have all of the latest and greatest equipment and still suck because it’s the Trainers and Physiologists that make the difference. Letting people come in and damage their joints, increase the risk of a heart attack and create an environment of judgment is a recipe for disaster.

The first thing I noticed was all the poor technique and sleazy sales trainers. It happened to me and I don’t want to project that onto others. Providing value first and asking for the sale second is always the way I do business. This wasn’t the case when I was a trainer at a gym in 2007. I was not allowed to ask people if they needed help because it would ruin my “trainer reputation.”

Above all people didn’t like it when a trainer asked them because then it felt like they were trying to sell them personal trainer packages. It’s much like selling products online today. If people spam your inbox with crap it’s annoying. Nobody wants that.

I was ahead of the curve because I wanted to provide value without selling a person a thing. In 2007 I hated sales people because I wasn’t good at sales myself. Because I was burned too many times by sleazy salespeople I didn’t want to seel anyone anything. I just wanted to help people in the gym. No sales plain and simple.

Since 2007 sales have become my best asset. Because of the inner work on myself, I will find a way to help you in any way possible. Going to the gym sucks if it’s a free range if machines and weights with no staff. The people create the environment. Meanwhile, it could be 2 am and you’re being suffocated by the flat bar because there’s no one around.

The best part of not requiring a gym to go to is not dealing with the douchebag with the shoestring tank top, stocking cap and baggy sweatpants on yelling into the mirror as he’s trying to fly 25 pounds on the dual cable machine.

In case you didn’t know the definition of douchebag was here it is:

douche·bag
/ˈdo͞oSHbaɡ/SubmitSubmit
noun
1. a small syringe for douching the vagina, especially as a contraceptive measure.

2. INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN
an obnoxious or contemptible person (typically used of a man).

If you’re offended by all of this, then you’re that guy. Stop being that guy by being mindful of others at the gym. Also, operate from a place of empathy and realize that you’re not the only one at the gym. Pick up after yourself and clean off what you’ve spread your nast on. It’s bad enough we have to touch the carts at the grocery store let alone your nast in the handles of the cable machine.

That’s why going to the gym sucks and I only do personal training and fitness coaching at gyms that have specific hours and are supervised. It’s a major problem in the Fitness Industry. There’s no regulation. Anyone with a major influence can tell the masses what to do. Australia has it figured out by far. Nice work everyone over there.

In Australia, you can’t call yourself anything until you have an education. That’s the only thing I see that Australia has over the USA. Because I don’t know anything else like I know Exercise Physiology. Remember, I’m wrong 99% of the time, just ask my wife. However, I’m right 1% of it too. Exercise Physiology, mindset coaching, consistency, and determination are my 1%.

So today, skip the gym and stay home because going to the gym sucks. Meanwhile, if you do go to the gym. Show this article to that douche bag at the gym and make sure he reads it. Maybe it will help you get in there quicker and get your WOD done so you can get the rest of your day back.
