Overeating at every meal and having many food comas afterward is why I stopped eating for taste. Today’s mindset coaching article will reveal what a person goes through to start eating for energy not for taste.
Once upon a time, I use to love food so much that I ate because it tasted good. Because I ignored my body I took in way too much energy aka calories. Many of us don’t even realize that we are only eating because of habits that were created by our parents. Hunger hit and then we cried. We ate and then we were happy.
Think about why you eat today. Does your body tell you that you’re hungry by the biofeedback of a rumbling in your tummy? It means, in most cases, that food is moving through your digestive tract. Plain and simple. What happens however is we correlate that sound and feeling to hunger. Then we eat and eat and eat and eat.
Then comes the food coma. That drowsy feeling of regret. Taking in too much energy is exactly why I started eating for energy not taste. It’s a mindset shift that happens when only when you’re ready. Saying things like “I don’t like vegetables” or “I don’t eat meat” won’t be true anymore.
I’m not trying to turn people on to eating meat, but increasing your awareness about protein intake is the intention. It’s simply eating for energy not for taste. Start by eating an apple a day because you know there are so many nutrients for your body. Then add in some steamed broccoli.
I’m talking daily. These changes are small and sustainable. If I were to say go on a diet today then you’d fail by tomorrow. Too many changes are like when an alcoholic stops drinking. They start to have seizures and go through withdrawals. That’s the biofeedback the body is providing them because it’s changed way too fast.
I’m also not saying that quitting drinking cold turkey isn’t good. I’m just imaging the correlation of what will happen if you change too many things too fast in your life. Your body will provide some kind of biofeedback that may or may not be pleasant.
So for this to start today eat an apple a day. Change the way you look at food by seeing it as an energy source and not pleasure center. Do other things to light up your pleasure center. Try something new, go for a walk, take that yoga class you’ve always wanted to try. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just do more of what makes you happy.
Unless you’re 100% happy overeating all the time. Then you’re good to go. Something tells me you’re not reading this far into this article if you’re 100% happy.
So make good choices each day and start eating for energy and not for taste. Get one round minimum done of this WOD and feel amazing afterward.
Have fun!
